Ford is preparing to unveil a Ford Mustang Bullitt GT special high performance edition at the Detroit Auto Show, which is set to open next week.
50th Anniversary of a cult movie: Ford to launch a 2018 Bullitt Mustang GT
That’s what Automotive News magazine reports. The Mustang Bullitt GT will be launched for the 2018 model year, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the movie Bullitt, starring the actor (and race driver for real) Steve McQueen in the role police Lieutenant Frank Bullitt.
The film shot in the steep streets of San Francisco includes one of the most famous US movie chases scenes, featuring the hero’s Mustang GT 390. In this green fastback Mustang, Lieutenant Bullitt pursues a pair of hitmen fleeing aboard a black Dodge Charger.
At the end of the chase, the two villains end up roasting in a fireball when their Charger slips and goes into the gas pumps of a gas station.
Ford launched Bullitt Mustangs in 2001, 2008 and 2009.
Automotive News said it did not get any technical data from the upcoming Bullitt, but it’s safe to bet that the car will be green.
