After several months of rumors and speculation, Apple announced the AirPods Max, the company’s first headphones that are not under the Beats by Dre brand. AirPods Max have a retro feel, which gives them a unique look. So far, it has been rumored that the headset will be called AirPods Studio. Alas, Apple likes to stick with familiar marketing names, and the AirPods Max is the end result.
AirPods Max can be ordered now from the Apple site and will ship from December 15th.
These headphones have the same features as the AirPods Pro, but in a different format. Each earbud features one of Apple’s H1 chips for easy connectivity, and an adaptive real-time equalizer. AirPods Max also have the option to pause music when you take off the earbuds, or even just move an earbud out of your ear.
Active noise cancellation and transparency mode are also part of the package, as is the all new Spatial Audio feature that Apple has added to AirPods Pro with the release of iOS 14. Spatial Audio offers a 5.1, 7.1 and more audio experience. Dolby Atmos, based on the movement of your head as you watch compatible content.
AirPods Max are available in Silver, Space Gray, Sky Blue, Pink, and Green. They also come with a fabric case that puts them in a low power state to preserve battery life. Speaking of battery life, Apple claims the AirPods Max will last 20 hours on a single charge with ANC and spatial audio turned on.
You can order AirPods Max right now. Deliveries will arrive next week, December 15th.
