US – The President Donald Trump said around 50 thousand to 60 thousand people in the United States are estimated to have died due to the coronavirus pandemic. This number is less than the previous estimate of 100,000 deaths.
At the end of March, US infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said based on a calculation model it was estimated there were 100,000 deaths or more due to the corona virus.
“Now we are going to 50 thousand (fatalities) – I heard or 60 thousand people. One is too many, but we are going to 50 thousand or 60 thousand people. That’s below – lower than the projected 100 thousand people should be,” Trump said in White House press conference on Monday (20/4) as reported by CNN.
Based on John Hopkins University statistics, the US has recorded 42,094 fatalities with 784,326 coronavirus cases.
“If we don’t do what we need to do, we will have, I think, one million victims maybe two million, maybe more than that (fatalities),” he added.
To date the US has said it has done more than four million tests on the corona virus. Around 633,861 tests were carried out in New York, the center of the spread of the corona virus in the US.
New York became the state with the highest fatalities reaching 14,406 people died from the coronavirus.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo claims to have passed the peak of the Covid-19 infection case. This was marked by the decline in cases of coronavirus in New York in the last few days.
“We have already passed the highest point, and all indications at this point are that we are going down,” he said.
According to him, the downward trend will continue to occur or vice versa depending on the attitude of the government in making policies.
“Whether the decline continues or not depends on what we are doing, but right now we are down,” he said.
