Alexander Volkanovski got the most important victory of his career, On Saturday in Las Vegas by defeating “Max Holloway” by unanimous decision to become the new featherweight champion at UFC 245.

He signed at the same time a 18 th straight victory.

Holloway had not lost since 2013 in this category, his only other defeat having occurred in the meantime against Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight title.

Volkanovski did well in the first round with several kicks damaging the leg. He continued to disturb the champion in the same way to the next. Holloway was not very active on his side besides some jabs.

Volkanovski continued to be the attacker in the third, moving forward, and his energy did not diminish. In the last minute, Holloway dared to do more with knockdown and kick kick attempts when he saw him trailing in the fight.

Holloway tried to maintain this approach on the fourth assault, but the midshipman did not allow himself to be imposed and held out until the end.

Usman succeeds in his 1st title defense

The final pitted Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington for the welterweight belt, and the defending champion did his job well on his first title defense passing the knockout. to the aspirant during the 5th and last round.

Twice in the last engagement, Usman was able to send Covington to the mat with powerful straight lines. The second time, he was able to maintain the pressure and force the fight to stop only 50 seconds from the end of the duel.

At the end of the third round, Covington had confessed to his corner that he believed he had broken his jaw. He nevertheless had the merit of continuing to attack despite this injury.

Usman is now at risk of facing Jorge Masvidal, honorary champion “BMF”.

It was the first time that Usman put into play its title acquired at UFC 235 at the expense of Tyron Woodley, by unanimous decision. Usman has won his last 11 fights in welterweight in the UFC. The record for consecutive wins is 12 … and is held by Georges St-Pierre.

Covington, for its part, saw its streak of seven wins in a row held back.

In the first championship bout of the evening, Amanda Nunes defeated Germaine de Randamie by unanimous decision (49-44, 49-46, 49-45).

The double champion thus retained her bantamweight title. By winning, she beat all the former champions of the divisions in which she played.

Nunes first threw his rival to the ground and then attempted a guillotine without success in the first round. When de Randamie found herself again on the ground, Nunes did excellent ground and pound and the midshipman was only protecting her face with her hands. Nunes attempted an arm triangle, but again, Randamie surprisingly survived.

The last kick in the face that led to another fall signaled Faber’s end in the third.

Randamie had the opportunity to control the action in the second round and hurt, especially on the knee on the fly, which has not happened in the career of the Brazilian. Nunes then brought the action back to the ground, to his advantage, as on the third engagement. With a sixth projection on the ground once in the fourth round, the ground and pound continued and de Randamie did not have the opportunity to change the game in the fifth.

Aldo narrowly escapes victory

Even if no title was at stake, two other duels were to be watched to complete the main map, including that between Marlon Moraes and former champion Jose Aldo, who was making his debut with the roosters.

There were good exchanges on both sides throughout the fight and the two men cashed well in a very close duel. In the end, the judges gave the victory to Moraes by shared decision.

The third time is good for Yan

The other staged Petr Yan, who defeated veteran Urijah Faber by K.-O. in the third round.

Yan controlled the center of the octagon in the first round. He then sent Faber twice to the mat on the second, first on a big right hand and then an elbow, but the latter got up each time. However, he suffered a severe cut that caused a lot of swelling in the left eye.

Yan now hopes to challenge bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo.
